**REMINDER FOR THIS WEEKEND** Southern Meadow will be having its Fall Community Yard Sale the first weekend in October. Please join us! It’s a great opportunity to get rid of things that you don’t need or want anymore and make a few bucks doing it.

Update on Clubhouse Access
Marisol has advised that the clubhouse will be open every Tuesday at 1 pm (beginning October 6th) exclusively for picking up or exchanging books.
MASKS ARE REQUIRED
All other areas in the clubhouse are not to be used.
Listing of Local Services
Sharon Cowart has compiled a list of local services such as hairdressers, primary care physicians, hospitals, specialists, dentists, veterinary clinics, etc. If you would like a copy, email Sharon.cowart@comcast.net and she will drop one in your mailbox or leave it on your front porch. I found this list very helpful when I was new to Southern Meadow.

SOUTHERN MEADOW RESIDENTS WELLNESS CHECK-IN PROGRAM
The Southern Meadow Residents Wellness Check-in Program is now fully operational and will regularly check on residents. Each street has one or more captains who call to check on residents twice a week. So far, residents in 41 houses have joined this program!
CLOTHING DONATIONS NEEDED VETERANS AT THE WILMINGTON VA
The Wilmington VA needs clothing for Veterans who present to the Emergency Room and GI clinics. As some Veterans may have issues with bed bugs or lice, the new clothing allows the medical staff to get them to the shower and give them fresh clothes before discharge. Sweatshirts and sweatpants in XL XXL, XXXL would be helpful in those efforts.
Baseball Pool in October
If there is a World Series, Don Z will run a Baseball pool in Oct. Tickets on sale after series teams announced and before first pitch.
Criteria are:
- $3 per ticket–no limit on purchases
- Pick winning team, and
- # of total runs scored in series without going over
(Game 1, A scores 5 runs & B scores 3 runs, so far total is 8). If everyone is over, closest three are winners.
- Winner gets 50% of pot: split if multiple winners or closest
- 2nd place gets 30% of pot: split if multiple winners, correct team and miss runs by 1 or closest
- 3rd place gets 20% of pot: split if multiple winners, correct team and miss runs by 2 or closest.
A BIG THANK YOU FROM JOHNNY’S ANGELS 2020 FUNDRAISING
Johnny’s Angels and The Walk to End Alzheimer’s has come to an end. I want to thank everyone who generously donated in 2020 to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s. I have exceeded my goal! Together, my family, friends and neighbors have raised $1425.00….Way to go everyone!!!!!!!
This year due to the pandemic it was challenging. I missed having the dine out fundraisers. Coming together to share a meal to support this worthy cause is something that I really looked forward to every year. Hopefully next year we can get back to them.
I can never say this enough. I appreciate each one of you from the bottom of my heart.

BIBLE STUDY
The Bible Study group meets at 10:30 am on Tuesdays. We are reading Max Lucado’s book “Facing Your Giants.” Call Agnes for the location.
HORSESHOES
Since this is an outdoor event, horseshoes will be played at 5 pm on Wednesdays in October. We will maintain social distancing.

The next scheduled “Horse Race Night Out” for Dover Downs is Thursday, March 12th. Post time for the first race is 4:30 pm. There is a buffet at Winner’s Circle Restaurant. Sign up in the Clubhouse or call Bill Chaney (302) 335-4951. The deadline to sign up will be Thursday, March 5th.
Kent County AARP Chapter Meeting Monday, March 16, 2020 at 10:00 am
How convenient! The March meeting of AARP (Kent Chapter) will be held at the Southern Meadow Club House at 10 am. Please join us and learn what how you can benefit from being an AARP member.
Ladies’ Luncheon Monday, March 16th at 12 noon
The Ladies’ Luncheon will be Monday, March 16th at Diamond State Grill, 913 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 199001. Please sign up in the Clubhouse.

Coffee Talk Monday, March 16th, 1 pm Community Grief
We live in a small community and so we are, in many ways, affected when our neighbors suffer a loss. Grief impacts a community even if we do not personally know the person who is suffering. Join us on Monday, March 16th at 1 pm in the Clubhouse for an open-ended discussion, facilitated by Thelma Sroka. Please sign up so we will have an idea on how many will attend.
March Madness NCAA Basketball Pool Drawings Monday, March 16th, 1:30 pm
Don Zalenski will be running a March Madness NCAA Basketball Pool in March after pairings are announced.
Criteria:
1. 32 openings only
2. $5 for 2 picks in your choice of 4 regions
3. Drawings are random (don’t have to know anything about teams).
4. Draw first for order of draw
5. Draw random for 2 teams
6. If all 32 picks are not met, can draw again for $5 until all openings are gone.
7. There are 5 winners: final 4 & Champion
8. $160 take-in; payout $32 each
9. Can draw for neighbor
Selection Sunday is March 15, with drawings on Monday, March 16th at 1:30 pm at the Clubhouse. First games are Tuesday, March 17. Final 4 on April 4th. Championship game on April 6th.
Baking for Frederica Senior Center Thursday, March 26th
We are baking for Frederica Senior Center on the 4th Thursday of each month. For March, that is March 26th.
Bean Bag Games
Join us in the Clubhouse on the second and fourth Fridays for fun as we toss bean bags. For March we will play on Friday, March 6th and 20th at 1:30 pm. No sign up necessary, just come on over and join whoever shows up.

Clubhouse Exercise Schedule
Monday through Friday classes will continue alternating yoga with low impact aerobics at 8:30 AM. Saturday intermediate yoga will continue on the schedule at 9 AM, but may be cancelled periodically due to participants’ vacations or pre-scheduled events using the clubhouse. Please refer to the monthly calendar for dates and times for scheduled activities.
