Super Bowl Pool January 28 – February 3

Don Z, Phyllis and Phil Saxe are running a Super Bowl pool. There will be three winners with the one closest to total points taking 50% of the pot, second closest taking 30% of the pot, and third closest taking 20% of the pot. Don will be at the Clubhouse to take your picks at 2 pm on January 28 and 4 pm on February 3. All sales end on February 3 at coin toss.


Holidays & Traditions Memory Group Tuesday, February 11, 2019, 2 pm

Lois Piersall is coordinating a forum for Southern Meadow residents to share their memories of holidays and traditions. If you have a holiday memory or tradition that you would like to share, please come to the Clubhouse on Tuesday, February 11th at 2 pm. This group will meet monthly on the second Tuesday of the month at 2 pm.


Super Bowl Chili Cook Off Sunday, February 3, 2019, 5 pm

Just because OUR Eagles are not in the Super Bowl doesn’t mean we can’t have the BEST ever Chili Cook Off!! Sign up in the Clubhouse to bring your favorite food to share. We hope to have many people sign up to make their best chili EVER. Come to the Clubhouse on Sunday, February 3, at 5 pm for great food and to judge the entries. Each person gets a vote.


Frederica Senior Center Valentine’s Dinner/Dance Saturday, February 9, 2019, 4-7 pm

The Frederica Senior Center is hosting a Valentine’s Dinner/Dance on February 9th from 4-7 pm. Dinner will be served at 4 pm, and dancing will begin at 5 pm. The cost is $10 per person. Dinner includes Fried Shrimp, Scalloped Potatoes, Coleslaw and Red Velvet Cake. BYOB


Coffee With Friends Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 at 1 pm

Ladies, come for a pre-Valentine’s Day celebration at McGlynns Pub in Dover (800 N. State Street). Sign up in the Clubhouse to ensure an accurate count for the restaurant.


Men’s Lunch Monday, February 19, 2019

Sign up in the Clubhouse to join the men for lunch at Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli in Rehoboth Beach (18949 Coastal Highway). We will leave the Clubhouse at 12 noon (25 minute ride). If you need a ride, POC is Dan Beck.


Ladies’ Lunch Monday, February 19, 2019 at noon

Join the ladies for lunch at Ruby Tuesday in Milford (945 N. Dupont Blvd.). POC Mary Jane Sienkewicz (302) 335-8184 and Diane Pastor (717) 993-5522.


Frederica Senior Center Wild Game Supper Saturday, February 23, 2019, 3 pm

The Frederica Senior Center is hosting a Wild Game Supper on February 23 from 3-6 pm. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Menu includes Muskrat, Goose Treats, Duck Salad, Venison, Frog Legs, Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy and Green Beans.


Clubhouse Exercise Schedule

See the calendar for the Clubhouse Exercise Schedule for February.
In case of snow or ice, depending on road conditions, there still may be exercise sessions. Jessica’s class participants will be notified. Jonalyn is usually at the Clubhouse at 8:30, but will send texts out to the regulars if not. The DVDs are always available.

Coffee Talk

Topic: American Women who help shaped the United States but are not in our history books. Date: January 18th Time 1:00 Place: Club House. A round table discussion on notable American Women who didn’t make the history books.


Bowling

“SENIOR LEAGUE BOWLERS” meet at 1:00 pm every TUESDAY at Brunswick Zone Doverama Bowl, 1600 S. Governors Avenue, Dover, DE. If any Southern Meadow residents would like to join, just show up.


Dominoes/Rummikub

Dominoes and Rummikub will start again in January at a new time and new day. Time will be 1:30 – 3:30 on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. If there are any questions, contact POC Myrle Scott at 302-751-1033.


Bowling

“SENIOR LEAGUE BOWLERS” meet at 1:00 pm every TUESDAY at Brunswick Zone Doverama Bowl, 1600 S. Governors Avenue, Dover, DE. If any Southern Meadow residents would like to join, just show up.


Want a night out at the horse races?

The scheduled “Horse Race Night Out” for Dover Downs is Thursday, Thursday, January 17th. Post time for the first race is 4:30. There is a buffet at Winner’s Circle Restaurant. A signup sheet will be placed in the clubhouse or you can call Bill Chaney (215) 260-5219. Deadline to sign up is Monday, January 14th.


Men’s Luncheon

We are going to Saketumi, an Asian cuisine restaurant in Rehoboth, on 21 January. There will be a sign up sheet. We will meet at the clubhouse at 1130. February – Jewish Deli. Dan Beck.


Women’s Luncheon

Ladies luncheon is @ Seafood City on Tuesday January 21st @12:00 noon. POC Mary Jane Sienkewicz and Diane Pastor.


Super Bowl

Don Z along w/ Phyllis and Phil Saxe will run a Super Bowl pool.
Criteria is:
1. Pick winning team
2. Pick total points from both teams (final score)
3. $3 each pick; no limit
4. Buy picks until coin toss; no sales after toss
5. Closest to total points, 2nd closest, 3rd closest w/o going over are winners
6. Closest gets 50% of pot; 2nd gets 30%, and 3rd gets 20%. (split if multiple winners) Sales will begin on Jan 28 until Feb 3 at coin toss. I will be at club Jan 28 at 2pm and Feb 3 at 4. Flag me down anytime or see Phil S or Phyllis. I will have a board w/purchases so you can avoid picking a same score if you wish. Thanks & enjoy the game. My # is 751-1440. Don Z

At the Club House

Dec 1 – Decorate the Clubhouse. Time: 11 am.

Dec 6 – Vote!  Know your candidates and vote!

Dec 8 – Holiday Craft Show and Sale at the Clubhouse 9 – 2. POC Betty Zarnitz.

Dec 9 – Community Christmas party at Roma’s Restaurant.

Dec 10 – Noon – is the time and date of the Southern Meadow 2018 Cookie Exchange. Please note homemade cookies only. No slice and bake cookies. We would like to see a nice variety of cookies. Marisol will order the food for lunch from Frederica Pizza. Sharon Cowart is the point person for the event assisted by Linda Syndon and Myrle Scott. The Cookie Exchange will begin immediately after lunch. The Committee plans to set up the clubhouse at 10:00 am on Monday 10 December.

Dec 12 – Please join us at 6:30 PM on Wednesday 12 December for Christmas caroling. Jay Cowart will provide the music for the caroling inside the clubhouse. Please bring a dessert to share. Beverages will be hot chocolate, coffee, tea. We will need half-and-half, milk, lemon slices. Father Christmas will make an appearance at the caroling gathering. Ho, Ho, Ho Happy Holidays. Sharon will post a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the clubhouse.

Tai Chi with Jane Adams

We have a new Tai Chi with Jane Adams DVD in the clubhouse. We have been learning Tai Chi Forms on Thursdays after yoga. There are 8 forms to learn and practice for the month before we put them together in the standard Tai Chi routine. Please join us in learning this graceful exercise that will increase your flexibility and balance. For information regarding our early morning exercise classes, call Jonalyn at 335-8452. All our routines can be tailored to meet any level of ability. We encourage anyone to come observe a class at any time. Please note discontinuation of Monday Beginner Yoga.


Hospice Festival of Trees

They are having the bakeshop again this year. I have the forms to fill out in advance for those who wish to donate items. The baked goods must be dropped off at the Festival of Trees at Noble’s Pond, the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, or the Hospice Office in Dover on Thursday, November 29th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. If necessary, bring them to Thelma Sroka and she will deliver. I must have them by 4 P.M. November 28th.


Bingo

Bingo will be held on Fridays as listed in the calendar at 1 PM at the Clubhouse.  POC Don Sienkiewicz.

The Caring Committee

If you know of any Southern Meadow community resident who needs a Get Well card or Thinking of You card, please notify SusanAnn Conlon at 335-8260 or susanann721@gmail.com .


The Murphey School

Thelma would like all gifts by Monday, December 10. The gifts they want are simple. The school also has needs such as full size bedding and towels. If in doubt, ask Thelma Sroka.


Men’s Luncheon

We are going to the Palace in Mildford, DE on December 17th. This is the third Monday of the month. We will meet at the clubhouse at 1130. Some updates are January – Asian, February – Jewish Deli.


Women’s Luncheon

There will be no Ladies’ luncheon during December. POC Mary Jane Sienkewicz and Diane Pastor.
