Southern Meadow Covered Dish Saturday, April 6, 2019, 5 pm

Spring is in the air! Please join us at the Clubhouse on Saturday, April 6th at 5 pm for a meal with your neighbors to support Johnny’s Angels and The Walk to End Alzheimers. There will be a 50/50. Sign up in the Clubhouse to indicate you are planning to attend AND to indicate what food you are bringing.


March Madness Basketball Concludes April 8, 2019

Winners will be notified on April 9th.


Southern Meadow Management Mtg. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, 11:30 am

All residents are invited to attend the April SME Management Meeting on Tuesday, April 9th at 11:30 am. The meeting starts promptly at 11:30, so plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to take your seat. This is your opportunity to learn what management is doing around our community and to voice your concerns respectfully.


Delmarva Mobile Veterinary Clinic Friday, April 12, 2019 10 am to noon

The Delmarva Mobile Veterinary Clinic will be hosting an introductory event outside the Clubhouse on Friday, April 12th from 10 am to noon. Enter to win fantastic discounts for your pet’s first visit. All residents of Southern Meadow and their immediate family will always receive 15% off or $15 off (whichever is higher) for veterinary services and preventive products.


MEN’S LUNCH Monday, April 15, 2019, 11:30 am

Sign up in the Clubhouse to join the men for lunch at Big Fish Grill in Rehoboth Beach (20298 Coastal Highway) on Monday, April 15th. Big Fish Grill has earned numerous “Best Seafood at the Beach” awards by Delaware Today magazine. Meet at the Clubhouse at 11:30 am; we will leave at 11:45am (25 minute ride).


LADIES’ LUNCH Monday, April 15, 2019 at noon

Join the ladies for lunch at the Greene Stinger in Dover (2 Walnut Shade Road). POC Mary Jane Sienkewicz.


Kent County Republicans Monday, April 29, 2019, 7 pm

The 33rd Representative District (RD) Republicans will meet on Monday, April 29th at 7 pm in the Frederica Senior Center, 216 S. Market Street. The Hon. Eric Buckson, Levy Court Commissioner for the 4th District, will be speaking about the Kent County Regional Planning Commission. The group will also be finalizing plans for the delegates and alternates to the Republican State convention on Saturday, May 4th, and set goals for 2019-2020. Meeting is open to everyone living in the 33rd RD (includes Frederica, and parts of Felton, northern Milford, Magnolia, Houston, and Bowers Beach).

National Dance Company of Ireland Friday, March 8, 2019

The National Dance Company of Ireland is performing The Rhythm of the Dance on March 8, 2019 at 7:30 at West Chester University in West Chester, PA. One of the singers is Pat J McGill’s cousin’s daughter, Aine McGill, from Ardara, County Donegal, Ireland. As a bonus, Aine will meet us after the performance! We have a small bus for the trip from Frederica Senior Center. The bus only holds 16 people. The cost should be about $15 for the bus ride.


SOUTHERN MEADOW BAKE-OFF Sunday, March 10, 2019, 6 pm

We know we have some great bakers in Southern Meadow! Show off your abilities with your best cakes, pies, cookies, and cupcakes at the FIRST Southern Meadow Bake-Off on March 10th. Bring your desserts to Thelma’s house at 108 Lavender Lane (across from the Clubhouse) between 2 and 4 pm on March 10th. On the bottom of the serving platter, put your name, the name of your dessert, and if it contains any nuts. Come to the Clubhouse at 6 pm to taste the entries and vote for your favorites. Sign up at the Clubhouse as a baker and/or attendee.


DE – AARP Lobby Day Wednesday, March 13, 2019 10 am – 2 pm

AARP is the nation’s largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering Americans age 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. Join AARP volunteers and members on March 13th for updates on federal and local advocacy issues, Grassroots advocacy training, Capital Caregivers Awards, and visit with state legislators at Legislative Hall, Dover. Horse Race Night Out at Dover Downs Wednesday, March 13, 2019

Want a night out at the horse races? Post time for the first race is 4:30 pm. There is a buffet at Winner’s Circle Restaurant. Sign up in the Clubhouse. Deadline to sign up is Sunday, March 10th.


Memories & Traditions Group Wednesday, March 13, 2019 7 pm

Lois Piersall is coordinating a forum for Southern Meadow residents to share their memories of holidays and traditions. If you have a holiday memory or tradition that you would like to share, please come to the Clubhouse on Wednesday, March 13th at 7 pm. This group will meet monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 pm.


ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY Sunday, March 17, 2019 4:00 pm.

Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Clubhouse with Corned Beef & Cabbage and Beef Stew. The cost is $5.00 per person charge to cover food costs. Volunteers are needed to cook (you will be reimbursed for food expenses). Sign up in the Clubhouse.


MARCH MADNESS!!!!! NCAA Basketball Poo Drawings Monday, March 18, 2019 1:30 pm

Don Zalenski is running a March Madness NCAA Basketball pool after pairings are announced. Criteria:
1. 32 Openings only
2. $5.00 for 2 picks in your choice of 4 regions
3. Drawings are random (don’t have to know anything about teams)
4. Draw first for order of draw
5. Draw random for 2 teams
6. If all 32 picks are not met, can draw again for $5.00 until all openings are gone
7. There are 5 winners — final 4 & Champion
8. $160.00 take-in pay out $32.00 each
9. Can draw for neighbor
Selection of picks is Sunday, March 17th. Come to the Clubhouse Monday, March 18th at 1:30 pm for the drawings. First game is Tuesday, March 19; final game is April 6th; Championship game is April 8.

Sign up in the Clubhouse to join the men for a fish and chips lunch at GO BRIT in Lewes (18388 Coastal Highway) on Monday, March 18th. Meet at the Clubhouse at 11:30 am; we will leave at 11:45am (25 minute ride).

Join the ladies for lunch at the Greene Turtle in Dover (391 N. Dupont Blvd.).

In case of snow or ice, depending on road conditions, there still may be exercise sessions. Jessica’s class participants will be notified. Jonalyn is usually at the Clubhouse at 8:30, but will send texts out to the regulars if not. The DVDs are always available.

Super Bowl Pool January 28 – February 3

Don Z, Phyllis and Phil Saxe are running a Super Bowl pool. There will be three winners with the one closest to total points taking 50% of the pot, second closest taking 30% of the pot, and third closest taking 20% of the pot. Don will be at the Clubhouse to take your picks at 2 pm on January 28 and 4 pm on February 3. All sales end on February 3 at coin toss.


Holidays & Traditions Memory Group Tuesday, February 11, 2019, 2 pm

Super Bowl Chili Cook Off Sunday, February 3, 2019, 5 pm

Just because OUR Eagles are not in the Super Bowl doesn’t mean we can’t have the BEST ever Chili Cook Off!! Sign up in the Clubhouse to bring your favorite food to share. We hope to have many people sign up to make their best chili EVER. Come to the Clubhouse on Sunday, February 3, at 5 pm for great food and to judge the entries. Each person gets a vote.


Frederica Senior Center Valentine’s Dinner/Dance Saturday, February 9, 2019, 4-7 pm

The Frederica Senior Center is hosting a Valentine’s Dinner/Dance on February 9th from 4-7 pm. Dinner will be served at 4 pm, and dancing will begin at 5 pm. The cost is $10 per person. Dinner includes Fried Shrimp, Scalloped Potatoes, Coleslaw and Red Velvet Cake. BYOB


Coffee With Friends Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 at 1 pm

Ladies, come for a pre-Valentine’s Day celebration at McGlynns Pub in Dover (800 N. State Street). Sign up in the Clubhouse to ensure an accurate count for the restaurant.


Men’s Lunch Monday, February 19, 2019

Sign up in the Clubhouse to join the men for lunch at Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli in Rehoboth Beach (18949 Coastal Highway). We will leave the Clubhouse at 12 noon (25 minute ride). If you need a ride, POC is Dan Beck.


Ladies’ Lunch Monday, February 19, 2019 at noon

Frederica Senior Center Wild Game Supper Saturday, February 23, 2019, 3 pm

The Frederica Senior Center is hosting a Wild Game Supper on February 23 from 3-6 pm. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Menu includes Muskrat, Goose Treats, Duck Salad, Venison, Frog Legs, Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy and Green Beans.
