At the Club House

Dec 1 – Decorate the Clubhouse. Time: 11 am.

Dec 6 – Vote!  Know your candidates and vote!

Dec 8 – Holiday Craft Show and Sale at the Clubhouse 9 – 2. POC Betty Zarnitz.

Dec 9 – Community Christmas party at Roma’s Restaurant.

Dec 10 – Noon – is the time and date of the Southern Meadow 2018 Cookie Exchange. Please note homemade cookies only. No slice and bake cookies. We would like to see a nice variety of cookies. Marisol will order the food for lunch from Frederica Pizza. Sharon Cowart is the point person for the event assisted by Linda Syndon and Myrle Scott. The Cookie Exchange will begin immediately after lunch. The Committee plans to set up the clubhouse at 10:00 am on Monday 10 December.

Dec 12 – Please join us at 6:30 PM on Wednesday 12 December for Christmas caroling. Jay Cowart will provide the music for the caroling inside the clubhouse. Please bring a dessert to share. Beverages will be hot chocolate, coffee, tea. We will need half-and-half, milk, lemon slices. Father Christmas will make an appearance at the caroling gathering. Ho, Ho, Ho Happy Holidays. Sharon will post a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the clubhouse.

Tai Chi with Jane Adams

We have a new Tai Chi with Jane Adams DVD in the clubhouse. We have been learning Tai Chi Forms on Thursdays after yoga. There are 8 forms to learn and practice for the month before we put them together in the standard Tai Chi routine. Please join us in learning this graceful exercise that will increase your flexibility and balance. For information regarding our early morning exercise classes, call Jonalyn at 335-8452. All our routines can be tailored to meet any level of ability. We encourage anyone to come observe a class at any time. Please note discontinuation of Monday Beginner Yoga.


Hospice Festival of Trees

They are having the bakeshop again this year. I have the forms to fill out in advance for those who wish to donate items. The baked goods must be dropped off at the Festival of Trees at Noble’s Pond, the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, or the Hospice Office in Dover on Thursday, November 29th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. If necessary, bring them to Thelma Sroka and she will deliver. I must have them by 4 P.M. November 28th.


Bingo

Bingo will be held on Fridays as listed in the calendar at 1 PM at the Clubhouse.  POC Don Sienkiewicz.


Bowling

“SENIOR LEAGUE BOWLERS” meet at 1:00 pm every TUESDAY at Brunswick Zone Doverama Bowl, 1600 S. Governors Avenue, Dover, DE. If any Southern Meadow residents would like to join, just show up.


The Caring Committee

If you know of any Southern Meadow community resident who needs a Get Well card or Thinking of You card, please notify SusanAnn Conlon at 335-8260 or susanann721@gmail.com .


The Murphey School

Thelma would like all gifts by Monday, December 10. The gifts they want are simple. The school also has needs such as full size bedding and towels. If in doubt, ask Thelma Sroka.


Men’s Luncheon

We are going to the Palace in Mildford, DE on December 17th. This is the third Monday of the month. We will meet at the clubhouse at 1130. Some updates are January – Asian, February – Jewish Deli.


Women’s Luncheon

There will be no Ladies’ luncheon during December. POC Mary Jane Sienkewicz and Diane Pastor.

At the Club House

Nov 2 – Ladies Afternoon Tea Get-together Friday, November 2nd at 1 PM. Southern Meadow ladies are invited to join your neighbors for afternoon tea. Please bring your teacup.  Teabags will be furnished. Ladies are invited to bring a baked goody to share. Store-bought is fine. Finger sandwiches of all kinds are welcome. We will need someone to bring sugar, honey, lemon, milk, and fruit jams for the scones.  Sharon Cowart is the point person. A signup sheet will be posted in the clubhouse. Nov 6 – Vote!  Know your candidates and vote!

Nov 11 – Veterans’ Day – November 11th is the one day set aside each year to honor those who have served and continue to serve our nation. Veterans Day offers a great opportunity to teach civilians about the sacrifice service members and their families make year-round. How do you plan to celebrate this year?

Nov 17 – Community Thanksgiving dinner is at the Clubhouse. Doors will open at 4:30 pm and the dinner catered by Jimmy’s Grille will be served at 5 pm. This event is for those members of the community who have signed up and pre-paid.  Set up will start at 1 pm. Lemonade and coffee will be served.  If you want another beverage, please bring your own.


Save the date!

Saturday, 8 December from 9 am to 2 pm, the Southern Meadow Crafters are having a craft show in the clubhouse!  Come in for last minute Christmas stocking stuffers and Hostess Gifts for your holiday visits. See what talent that we have here in our community. Spaces are still available and sign up sheet is at the clubhouse. Many thanks, Betty Zarnitz 751-1663

Want a night out at the horse races?

The scheduled “Horse Race Night Out” for  Dover Downs is Thursday, November 15th. Post time for the first race is 4:30.  There is a buffet at Winner’s Circle Restaurant.  A signup sheet will be placed in the clubhouse or you can call Bill Chaney (215) 260-5219.    Deadline to sign up is Monday, November 12.


Men’s Luncheon

Save the date. We are going to Longhorn Steakhouse on Monday 12 November and we will meet at the clubhouse at 11:30 and then leave at 11:45.  This is on Dupont Highway. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board.  Dan.

Quick look at what’s going on in October

At the Club House

Oct 3 – Pippin Funeral Home will be coming to our Clubhouse on Wednesday, October 3rd at 4:00 pm to provide us with information regarding pre-arranged funerals. A signup sheet has been posted on the Clubhouse bulletin board. Please sign up if you plan to attend so we can set up enough tables/chairs.

Oct 5 – 6 Yard Sale: Clean out the attic or garage and open the garage door on Friday and Saturday. The signs will be put up and we will have a community yard sale. Please send out the word in Craig’s List, Facebook, etc. Marisol is putting it in the newspaper.

Oct 17 – Payment for Thanksgiving dinner due.

Oct 31 – 7:00 – Halloween Party with costumes, prizes, and dancing with DJ Jay! Bring your own drinks and snacks to share. There will be a 50/50 for the clubhouse fund. POC Myrle and Patt


Women’s Luncheon

The ladies will be going to TGI Friday’s in Dover on Monday, 15 October. POC Mary Jane Sienkewicz and Diane Pastor.


Men’s Luncheons

All the men save the date. We are going to Matt’s Fish Camp on Monday Oct.15th and we will meet at the club house at 11:30 and then leave at 11:45.  This is in Lewis DE. There will be a signup sheet on the bulletin board.  Dan.


Woodcarving

Woodcarving meets each Wednesday from 1:30 to 4 pm. If you have any carving tools that need sharpening, please come to the clubhouse at 1 pm. Please bring your Unfinished Projects and Work In Progress. New Students are welcome but please contact Fred Ainge in advance of class so that we can have supplies and safety info available to get started. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Fred Ainge at 751-1575 or stop by at 179 Daffodil to get more information on how to get started!


Left/Right/Center

Left, Right, Center is on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.  $7.50 will get you 5 games and all money is returned to winners.   Thanks!  Don Z. All are welcome.


Frederica Senior Center

Southern Meadow Bakers are baking once a month for the Center usually on the fourth Thursday, 27 September. Put the date on your calendar. Please call if you can’t do it this month. Thanks. POC is Myrle Scott. 302-751-1033.


Pinochle

Groups are gathering to play pinochle on Tuesday and Friday evenings at the Club House at 7. Interested? We have two to three tables each evening so far. Come and join in. POC Norm Jensen
