Fall Community Garage Sale Fri, Oct. 4, 2019 Sat, Oct. 5, 2019 8 am – 2 pm

The Southern Meadow Community Garage Sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 4 and 5, from 8am to 2 pm. An ad has been placed in the News Journal and signs have been placed in strategic locations


Horse Race Night Out At Harrington Raceway Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 4 pm

The next scheduled “Horse Race Night Out” for Harrington Race Track is Tuesday, October 15. The restaurant opens at 4 pm with first race at 4:30 pm. Sign up in the Clubhouse.

AARP Chapter 721 Meeting Monday, October 21, 2019 at 10 am

The next scheduled “Horse Race Night Out” for Harrington Race Track is Tuesday, September 10. The restaurant opens at 4 pm with first race at 4:30 pm. Sign up in the Clubhouse or call Bill Chaney (302) 335-4951. The deadline to sign up will be Tuesday, September 3.


Painting with Liisa Trala Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 1 pm

Bring a lantern with glass panels to paint for the holidays, season, or just to match your décor. There may be a minimal charge for paint.


Baking for Frederica Senior Center Thursday, October 24th

We will bake for Frederica Senior Center on the 4th Thursday of each month. For October, the date is 10/24.

Join your friends for lunch on Monday, September 16th at the Wheelhouse Raw Bar ‘n Grill in Lewes. Delicious fish tacos, raw bar, outside deck/waterfront seating and live music daily. Sign up in the Clubhouse. Meet at the Clubhouse at 11 am; we will leave at 11:30 am.


Baking for Frederica Senior Center Thursday, October 24th

We will resume baking for Frederica Senior Center on the 4th Thursday of each month. For October, the date is 10/24.

Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance Club

Residents in Magnolia are eligible to enroll their household in the Ambulance Club. An annual $65 donation entitles your household to unlimited ambulance service for all 911 emergencies dispatched through the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. If you are interested in enrolling for July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020, send your check for $65 to Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance Club, PO Box 55, Magnolia, DE 19962. In the Memo or For section on your check, indicate Ambulance Club.


Coordinator Needed for Monthly Men’s Lunch

What’s the difference between the Men’s Lunch and Lunch with Friends? The Men’s Lunch focuses on nearby restaurants for men who want to eat lunch and return home rather quickly. Lunch with Friends focuses on more distant restaurants. If you would like to organize the monthly Men’s Lunch, Dan Beck can provide some guidance. Please remember to provide information about the lunch for the newsletter.


Northeast Woodcarvers Roundup

Many of our woodcarvers traveled to Honesdale, PA for the weeklong Northeast Woodcarvers Roundup in July. Steve and Thelma Sroka, Myrle Scott, Patti Papineau, Rich and JoAnn Connelly, Tom and Kathy Milito, and Fred and Ellen Ainge spent the week meeting new and old friends, learning new techniques and crafts, laughing in the rain, and enjoying meals prepared together and shared with friends from far and near.


Frederica Pizza Fundraiser For Johnny’s Angels Wednesday, September 4, 2019

Dine In or Take Out “ALL DAY” Frederica Pizza and Pasta House. This is our last fundraiser before the Walk. Please join your neighbors in support of Alzheimer’s and Team Johnny’s Angels while enjoying a meal together.10% of all checks will go to Johnny’s Angels to support The Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Vouchers are needed and are on the Clubhouse bulletin board. There will also be some at Frederica Pizza’s register. Please join us and bring your friends! I hope to see you there! Thank You for your support!


MANAGEMENT MEETING Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 11:30 am

All residents are invited to attend the September Management Meeting on Thursday, September 5th at 11:30 am. Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to take your seat. This is your opportunity to learn what management is doing around our community and to voice your concerns respectfully.


AARP Morning Coffee Social Monday, September 9, 2019 at 10 am

Delaware AARP is sponsoring a Morning Coffee Social for Southern Meadow on Monday, September 9th at 10 am in the Clubhouse. Learn about the work being done in Delaware by AARP, and about the benefits of being an AARP member.

COFFEE TALK Monday, September 16, 2019 at 10 am

All are welcome to join Thelma Sroka for a Coffee Talk at 10 am on Monday, Septem-ber 16th, as she recounts the history of The U.S. Government’s Forgotten Plan to Lock Up Women and Free the Country from the Scourge of Disease. The Coffee Talk will include the perspective of Nina McCall, an 18-year-old girl forcibly committed and treated for venereal disease. All are welcome; refreshments will be served.


LADIES’ LUNCH Monday, September 16, 2019 at 11 am

The Ladies’ Lunch for September will be on Monday, September 16th at 11 am. We will go to River Run Cruises on the Choptank River in Denton, MD. Meet at the Club-house at 9:30 am and carpool to Denton for a two-hour cruise with lunch, returning home at approximately 2:30 pm. The cost of the cruise is $24.50 each including a lunch of fried chicken, various sides, iced tea, lemonade, and dessert. I have been on this cruise many times and have always had a great time. A signup sheet will be posted in the Clubhouse shortly. Space is limited. If interested, please call me to I can keep an accurate count.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Saturday, September 28, 2019

Mark your calendar and please join Team Johnny’s Angels in their 5th annual walk and fundraiser from Grove Park in Rehoboth Beach. Help us to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who supported this year’s fundraising efforts, and with your help we can see the very first survivor of this horrific disease in the near future. If you want to join Team Johnny’s Angels to walk, come to the park. National Senior Citizen Day & National Ice Cream Day Friday, August 16, 2019 at 1:30 pm

Come to the Clubhouse at 1:30 pm on Friday, August 16th, to celebrate National Senior Citizen Day. This Southern Meadow event will be topped off with an Ice Cream Social. Watch for a sign-up sheet at the Clubhouse.


National Ice Cream Day Friday, August 16, 2019 at 1:30 pm

Come to the Clubhouse at 1:30 pm on Friday, August 16th, to celebrate National Senior Citizen Day. This Southern Meadow event will be topped off with an Ice Cream Social. Watch for a sign-up sheet at the Clubhouse.


LADIES’ LUNCH Monday, August 19, 2019 at noon

Enjoy the beautiful view of Silver Lake during lunch with the ladies at McGlynn’s Pub and Restaurant in Dover (800 N. State Street).

Join your friends for lunch at Wolfie’s Grill, 510 Jefferic Blvd, Dover, on Monday, August 19th. Sign up in the Clubhouse. Meet at the Clubhouse at 11 am; we will leave at 11:30 am.


Left/Right/Center

Left/Right/Center will be played on August 12th and August 26th at 7 pm. Entry fee is $7.50 for the 5 games and all money is returned as prizes. Everyone is welcome.


Horseshoes

Join us for Horseshoes on Wednesdays at 6 pm.


Pinochle

Come to the Clubhouse on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 7 pm to play Pinochle. We have two to three tables each evening so far.


Clubhouse Exercise Schedule

Please note a change to the group exercise schedule. Saturday morning yoga will be canceled for July and August. Join us again in September. See the calendar for other opportunities to exercise including Water Aerobics on Tuesday mornings at 9:45.

Feel like exercising but there is no class on the date/time you have available? Check out the DVDs in the middle drawer of the TV cabinet for gentle senior yoga or simple stretching. We also have many different kinds of Jessica Smith or Leslie Sansone walking DVDs suitable for beginners. Simple instructions for operating the TV and DVD player are on a hand-out on the cabinet top.
