Christmas donations

Each year, the residents of Southern Meadow “adopt” someone for the Holidays and provide a better season for those more needy. In the past, we have adopted a family, service members, elderly and development disabled. Again this year, we will adopt the Murphey House for Christmas gifts for the children. The Elizabeth W. Murphey School is a non-profit group home facility in Dover, Delaware that provides services for children who have issues with dependency and/or neglect. They currently house 31 youth on campus as well as provide Independent Living services to approximately 70 young people in the community. Memorial Service

November 1, at 1:00 for our friend and neighbor, Kathy Janssen.  Please join her friends and family celebrating Kathy’s life.

Dear Fellow Residents,

I am trying again to show my video “Mortal Decisions- and what matters at the end. Hospices use this as training.  It is very informative and nothing to be afraid of. I am planning for: October 28 at 2 p.m. at the Clubhouse, I am hoping we can have a round table discussion after. I will put a signup sheet in the clubhouse, so I will know if enough people are interested.  If not, I will show it at my house.

Thanks,
Thelma

Poe Night

The literary night with Edgar Allen Poe was a success and all enjoyed a great time.  The group decided to do the literary night again in January during the winter doldrums with William Shakespeare.  Recite a sonnet, piece of poetry, and get together with a friend or two and re-enact a scene from one of his plays.

Thank you Barbara Borrell and Mary Frances Gould. Well done.

Italian Night

The Italian covered dish dinner was another success.  We have the best cooks living in Southern Meadow.  (Try and get Betty Zarnitz’s Eggplant recipe. When you do, share it with the rest of us.)

Thank you, Mary Jane.

Big Band Dance at the Club house

November 11– In honor of Veterans’ Day, there will be a Big Band Dance at the Club house featuring DJ Paul DeWolfe. Paul will be hosting the evening with a 40’s Big Band theme and old time USO dance. Wear vintage clothing, or something patriotic or representative of your branch of service.  Let’s see who still fits in their uniform!!!!  Come out and enjoy the evening reminiscing about the good old days of your parents!!!!! BYOB and bring snacks. Delaware USO is lending us their support with signs and such, so we ask you to lend your support to our service members currently serving our nation through a donation to the USO. There will be a donation jar, or you can bring one of more of the following budget relieving items. – POC Betty Renshaw and Patti Papineau.

Thanksgiving Dinner

November 18 – Thanksgiving dinner for the community is being held at the Frederica Senior Center Hall at 5 pm.  The cost is $7 per person.  Christine is starting to collect the payments. Dinner will be the traditional Thanksgiving dinner.  The fabulous Southern Meadow bakers will provide desserts.  If you are interested in baking a Thanksgiving specialty, call Patti or Myrle.

Karaoke Event

Karaoke night in October was a success and the community is doing it again. If you love to sing and enjoy doing karaoke, please join Jay Cowart on 25 November at 7 pm in the clubhouse for a karaoke evening. A sign-up sheet will be placed in the clubhouse. Please sign up so we can get an idea of how to arrange seating. Bring your own snacks and BYOB.  Jay is happy to do these events for our community since he’s purchased his new karaoke equipment.  Sing along to all the party songs and all the 50s, 60s, and 70s songs.
